Have you ever imported products from China? Even if you have, you may be paying more than you should. We only know this because we’ve been doing this for a long time and we’ve perfected Chinese importing to North America.
Importing is the final phase in the Chinese product sourcing or manufacturing process. Even if the production is flawless, or you find a factory who already makes just what you are looking for, shipping those products to your desired locations in North America can set you back financially and on your timeline.
There are so many moving parts to this phase of the supply chain that can go wrong.
It doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to save 25%-30% on manufacturing just to spend it all on logistics and importing from China.
The good news is - we understand packaging, HS codes, carriers and customs can all can be a big factor in overall product cost.
We will walk you through the process of coding, cartons/skids, container sizes and ground and ocean freight. Large or small orders, we can make the importing process flow smoothly. Everyone wants good service at a good price and we can do that for you and your company.
How can we help you import your products?
It may sound simple but improper box or skid specifications, or lack of skids entirely can cause significant damage and using the wrong material on the skids can result in a Customs CBP violation.
Do you know what this means?
This means your shipment can be put on hold or rejected at the port entirely. Not good!
While they are at it, Customs will also check the HS Code# to see if there are tariffs or duties to be paid on the items. Incorrect #’s or paperwork means more delays or rejections. Starting to get the picture?
Importing from China is a very important part of the overall logistical supply Chain and there are companies that JUST DO THIS.
We work with clients to ensure damage free transportation by air, ground or sea and make sure all packaging and administrative things are on par.
When we tell you your products are on the way, you won’t have to worry about delays or worse. We’ll cross all the t’s and dot the i’s as necessary.
What is the cost of importing?
Next it’s important to find the right freight company to move your products. This is where your import costs begin.
Depending on your order size, Your shipment may be LCL (less than container load) or FCL (full container load). Each shipment type is handled differently.
In the case of LCL, your shipment is sent to a warehouse to be consolidated with other products to fill a container. For FCL the container will be taken to the factory and your product loaded.
Using the best freight forwarder and customs broker can simplify this entire process and save your company a lot of money. Costs will vary dramatically depending on the time of year and destination. A typical 40’ container usually ranges between $2,500 to $4,000 plus any associated costs at the destination. This may all sound very complicated but our team can simplify and streamline the process and get you the best quality, service and price.
How does the import process work?
Chinese Importing starts with choosing the freight carrier that will get your order from the factory to the airport or seaport.
Once your order arrives, it undergoes a Customs inspection.
When your order passes inspections it is loaded onto the airplane or vessel for transportation to North America.
But wait, there’s more.
When it arrives on the ground in North America it undergoes a Customs inspection again. Once any associated duties and tariffs are paid, the order needs to be picked up from the dock and moved the location of your choosing.
For some companies this may be a fulfillment warehouse. For others it might be the company’s front door.
Here’s what’s important about the entire import process...
transportation costs, freight rates and corresponding terms need to be negotiated with the factory, freight forwarder, customs broker and ocean freight carrier ahead of time.
If all of this sounds complicated, good. It actually is. And if you don’t do it right, it’s expensive too.
But there is no need to worry, we can be your import experts and take care of all of this for you.
As a added service we can even help you with warehousing, distribution or fulfillment needs when your product arrives. This means you can have your product warehoused and ready to be labeled and packaged to fill both ecommerce orders or distribute to customers as needed.
